Turkey's Unemployment Rose To 10.4 Percent İn October

Turkey's unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent in the October period, up from 9.7 percent in the same period of the year before, due to slower economic growth, according to data released on Thursday.

Non-agricultural unemployment rate rose to 12.5 percent, in October period, representing the months September-October-November, against 11.9 percent in the same period of the year before, according to the Labour Force Statistics data of Turkish Statistical Institute.

Number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over has realized as 3 million 43 thousand persons in the period of October 2014 in Turkey, unemployment rate stood at 9.1 percent for male and 13.3 percent for female, while youth unemployment including 15-24 age group realized as 19.7 percent, unemployment rate for 15-64 age group at 10.6 percent.

Number of employed persons aged 15 years old and over realized as 26 million 138 thousand persons in the period of October 2014 and employment rate occured as 45.7 percent, while the rate stood at 65.0 percent for male and 26.8 percent for female.

WITHOUT ANY SOCIAL SECURITY

The ratio of persons who worked without any social security related to the main job realized as 35 percent in the period of October, while this rate stood at 82.9 percent in agriculture and 22.5 percent in non-agriculture sectors. With the number of total employment data, the ratio shows that 9 million 148 thousand people are working in Turkey without any social security.

COMPOSITION OF THE EMPLOYMENT

Agricultural employment realized as 5 million 404 thousand persons and non-agricultural employment realized as 20 million 734 thousand persons in this period. Of those who were employed in this period; 20.7 percent was employed in agriculture, 20.5 percent was employed in industry, 7.7 percent was employed in construction and 51.2 percent was employed in services.

Labour force participation rate realized as 51 percent with 29 million 181 thousand persons in the period of October, with 71.5 percent for male and 30.9 percent for female.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

Seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 132 thousand persons and reached 26 million 58 thousand persons compared to the previous period. Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 45.5 percent by 0.2 percentage point increase.

In the period of October 2014, the number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons increased by 9 thousand persons. Unemployment rate occured as 10.6 percent without any change. - Istanbul
